Two students of Igbinedion Educational Centre in Benin, Edo State, have been expelled after they were caught bullying a younger pupil in an incident that has since gone viral online.
The disturbing episode, captured in a widely circulated video, shows a larger student, believed to be a senior, repeatedly flogging a boy who was lying on the ground with what appeared to be a belt.
A voice in the background can be heard pleading with the attacker to stop.
Despite the appeals, the student continued the assault and at one point attempted to stamp on the victim’s head as the boy tried to shield himself with his hands.
While the pleas continued, another bigger student stepped in, kicking the victim and jumping on his ribs while he remained on the floor.
The student being assaulted appeared helpless throughout the ordeal.
At some point, the second attacker reportedly tried to seize the phone used to record the incident after the person behind the camera called him “Boss” and “Choice”, which appeared to be his name.
Reacting to the incident, the school management confirmed the development in a statement issued on Friday evening, describing the behaviour as disturbing.
It said the students involved had been expelled, stressing that the institution operates a strict zero-tolerance policy against bullying and other forms of violence.
The statement read:
“We are aware of a video currently circulating online showing a serious incident of bullying and physical assault involving students at the school.
“The behaviour shown in the video is deeply disturbing and stands in direct violation of the values and standards we uphold. The school maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward bullying, cultism, intimidation, harassment, and any form of violence.
“Following an immediate investigation, the students responsible have been expelled from the school with immediate effect. Such conduct will never be tolerated within our school community.
“Our priority remains the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of every student. We are providing support to those affected and are working closely with their families to ensure the matter is addressed with the seriousness it deserves.
“The incident has been reported to the appropriate authorities and knowing that the students are minors; the school is cooperating fully.”
