Henry Onyemanze Nwosu, the Nigerian football icon who etched his name in history as the youngest member of the legendary 1980 African Nations Cup winning squad and later served his nation as a coach at the World Cup and Olympics, has passed away at the age of 62.

1. He Was Nigeria’s Baby Elephant at Just 16 – Henry Nwosu became the youngest member of the legendary 1980 African Nations Cup winning squad when he was only 16 years old.

2. He Scored Nigeria’s Only Olympic Goal in 1980 – Nwosu netted the sole goal for Nigeria at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, making him the country’s lone scorer on football’s biggest global stage.

3. He Played in Four Different African Nations Cup Tournaments – Across 11 years, Nwosu featured in the 1980, 1982, 1984 and 1988 editions, reaching the final in three of them.
