The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge turned toxic long before the final whistle. By the 60th minute, with the tie long decided, Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior effectively waved the white flag, withdrawing Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernández and João Pedro simultaneously .

Paris Saint-Germain, PSG,  delivered a masterclass in clinical efficiency at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, demolishing Chelsea 3-0 on the night to complete an astonishing 8-2 aggregate victory that sends the defending champions into the Champions League quarter-finals and leaves the Blues facing their heaviest European defeat in years.

The reigning European champions, who had already put five past Chelsea in the first leg at the Parc des Princes, showed no mercy in west London. Goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola and substitute Senny Mayulu ensured the aggregate scoreline read a scarcely believable 8-2.

The tie was effectively over after just six minutes. Matvey Safonov’s long clearance should have been routine for debutant defender Mamadou Sarr, but the young centre-back horribly miscontrolled under pressure from Kvaratskhelia.

The Georgian winger pounced, curling a clinical finish past Robert Sánchez to make it 6-2 on aggregate .

If that stunned the home crowd into silence, Barcola’s 14th-minute strike left them in disbelief. Moisés Caicedo surrendered possession cheaply in midfield, and when the ball arrived at Barcola’s feet on the edge of the box, the Frenchman flicked it up and unleashed an outrageous volley into the top corner . At 7-2 on aggregate, the contest was over.

The second-leg humiliation came after PSG had already torn Chelsea apart in France last week. That 5-2 victory at the Parc des Princes featured two late goals from Kvaratskhelia, a brilliant solo effort from Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé, and a disastrous error from Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jørgensen that gifted Vitinha a lobbed finish .

“The Georgian was electric on both wings and, on his day, a joy to watch,” noted one match report of Kvaratskhelia’s performance across both legs .

Moments later, 19-year-old Senny Mayulu rubbed salt into the wounds, blasting home PSG’s eighth goal of the tie from Kvaratskhelia’s cutback. The stadium emptied steadily throughout the final half-hour, with supporters having seen enough.
