Three police officers and a local vigilante leader has been killed in a bandit attack in Taraba state. The state’s Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement released on Thursday.

The deceased officers, identified as Corporal Raphael Danjuma, Constable Ebenezer Daniel, and Police Constable Samuel Bawa, were said to have lost their lives while serving the country.

”Upon arrival, the officers came under heavy gunfire from the attackers, leading to a fierce exchange. In the course of the operation, the police operatives engaged the bandits and successfully repelled the attack. Bawa had initially been declared missing before his body was later recovered in a nearby bush during a search operation,” the police confirmed.

The tragedy also claimed the life of  60-year-old chairman of the local vigilante group in Tordamisa Village, Nutsa Tyav whose body was found after the attack.

Betty Enepen Isokpan Otimenyin, the Commissioner of Police in the state, expressed shock over the deaths. She described  the fallen officers and vigilante leader as heroes who paid the ultimate price in the service of their communities.
