NiMet DG Anosike receives NANS mentorship award, lauds Tinubu on student loan
Director General/CEO of the Nigerian Meteorogical Agency (NiMet), Prof. Charles Anosike, has commended President Bola Tinubu, for his massive investment in the education sector, especially the introduction of the Nigerian Educational Loan Fund (NelFund) which he said has so far benefitted over 1million students across several public universities in the vluntry.
Anosike made the commendation Thursday at the 2026 Student Mentorship summit organised by the National Association of Nigerian Student (NANS) which took place at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja. The theme of the event was “Skybound Leadership: A Multi-Sector Approach to Youth Development in Tech, Aviation, Oil and Gas, Security and Anti-Drug/Cybercrime Advocacy”
At the event, Prof. Anosike was honoured with NANS Mentorship Award for his giant strides at NiMet, with particular reference to timely and accurate information dissemination on climate and weather which the organisers said, had played significant role in the safety of lives, guided farmers accurately which has subsequently abundance yield for crops.
In his remark, Prof. Anosike who was represented by Barrister Shola Gabriel, Director, Legal Services, said over 1million university students have benefitted from President Tinubu’s students loan scheme and described it as a historic milestone in the nation’s educational development.
He called on more students to embrace the scheme and key into it as the policy has helped immensely in reducing the burden faced by parents in training their children as well as provided rare opportunity for indigent students to acquire university education.
Anosike also said that NiMet has entered into partnership with some universities on research and other areas aimed at improving climate and weather monitoring, prediction and reporting, adding that the agency would sign agreements with more universities and institutions within and outside Nigeria in the coming months to improve agriculture, air and sea travels, among other areas.
Earlier in his speech, President Bola Tinubu who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagements, Sunday Ashefon, hailed Nigerian students for the contributions to nation building.
He noted that his administration has appointed more young men and young women into leadership position than any other administration in the past and promised greater opportunities for Nigerian youths, going forward
Others who received awards at the event include the Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Dr. Mohammed Bulama, Olusegun Faleye, MD/CRO, Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund, General Christopher Musa (rtd), Minister of Defence, Prince Dapo Abiodin, Governor of Ogun State and Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, among others.
Barrister Shola Gabriel was accompanied to the event by Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, Director, Public Relations and Consumer Protection as well as Dr. Emmanuel Uket, SA to NiMet DG on General Services.
