The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed a viral wanted poster circulating on social media featuring popular Nigerian comedian Emmanuel Ejekwu, popularly known as Sabinus, describing it as fake and misleading.
The commission made the clarification on Thursday via its official social media page, stamping the poster “FAKE NEWS” and warning those responsible to desist from spreading false information.
“Clout chaser, Stop this now!” the EFCC wrote, responding to the doctored material, which had gained traction across Instagram, X, and other platforms.
The fake poster carried the EFCC logo and falsely alleged that the 43-year-old comedian was wanted for obtaining money under false pretence. It even listed a purported last known address at 13/14 Ligali Ayomide Street, Victoria Island, Lagos State.
Investigations by the commission revealed that the poster mimicked the design and format typically used by the EFCC in declaring suspects wanted. The agency, however, did not indicate whether it had identified the individual or group behind the doctored material.
Sabinus, known for his viral skits and online comedy content, has built a substantial following in Nigeria and internationally. He has not publicly reacted to the false poster as of the time of reporting.
The EFCC reiterated its warning against the spread of fake content, urging the public to verify information from official sources before sharing.
