Manchester United secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night, courtesy of a first-half strike from Matheus Cunha in a tightly contested Premier League clash.
Cunha’s decisive moment came in the 43rd minute, when he latched onto a precise pass from Bruno Fernandes before calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner, handing United a crucial lead heading into the break.
Chelsea dominated large spells of possession and created numerous chances, but were repeatedly denied by resolute defending and wasteful finishing.
The hosts struck the woodwork multiple times, with Liam Delap and Wesley Fofana both coming agonisingly close to restoring parity.
Despite registering more shots on target and sustaining pressure deep into the second half, Chelsea failed to convert their opportunities, as United held firm under intense late pressure.
The closing stages saw tensions rise, with several bookings issued as Chelsea pushed forward in search of an equaliser.
However, United’s defence remained disciplined, clearing dangerous set-pieces and limiting clear-cut chances.
The result marks a significant boost for Manchester United, who capitalised on their clinical edge, while Chelsea were left to rue missed opportunities in a match where they arguably deserved more.
