Gunmen believed to be robbers attacked student hostels at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ibogun Campus, late at night, causing serious fear and confusion among students who ran for safety.
The attack reportedly started around midnight and continued into the early hours of Saturday. Witnesses said more than 12 armed men stormed several hostels at once.
They fired shots into the air to scare students and force them to cooperate. During the attack, the gunmen stole phones, laptops, money, and other personal belongings from the students.
A witness, Michael Mabayomije, shared his experience on social media, explaining that the attackers moved from one hostel to another without facing any immediate resistance.
This made the situation worse, as the attackers had enough time to carry out their operation. Several students were injured during the incident, while many others were left in shock and emotional distress.
Some students were hurt while trying to escape through windows, fences, or dark pathways. Others were injured while attempting to protect their belongings from the attackers.
Reports also indicated that bloodstains from injured victims were seen on the walls and floors of one of the affected hostels, showing how violent the attack was.
Residents of Ibogun described the incident as chaotic and frightening. Gunshots echoed across the campus area, waking many people from sleep and causing panic throughout the community.
Students were seen running in different directions, looking for safe places to hide until the situation calmed down.
Following the incident, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed that an investigation has begun.
The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Ibogun Division, along with the Area Commander, has been deployed to the scene.
Their presence is aimed at assessing what happened, restoring calm, and reassuring students and residents that efforts are being made to improve security and prevent future attacks.
