Boko Haram Suspects Ambush Police Patrol

Suspected members of the Boko-Haram sect in Damaturu ambushed a police patrol team, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.

The Yobe Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Lawal Tanko, said in Damaturu on Wednesday that his men were on routine patrol when they came under attack, but succeeded in repelling the attack.

Tanko told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that “my men ran into an ambush laid by suspected militants at about 6.30 p.m. There was an exchange of fire but no casualties.”

Damaturu Local Government Area is one of the 15 local government areas in the country under state of emergency, imposed by the Federal Government.

A dusk-to-dawn curfew has also been imposed on the town, as a result of the activities of the Boko-Haram militants.
