Senegalese-American singer and record producer, Akon, has openly discussed his past relationships, admitting that his life was “easier” when he was surrounded by multiple women.

The 53-year-old star shared his thoughts on his former romantic lifestyle during a recent interview on The Shade Room. Reflecting on the excitement and simplicity of his earlier years, Akon explained that having multiple women in his life brought a sense of ease and excitement he no longer finds in his current monogamous relationship.

“My life was much easier when I had multiple women surrounding me. But being with just one woman isn’t as exciting,” he revealed during the interview.

When questioned about his current relationship status and how many women he is involved with, Akon declined to give a direct answer, opting instead to remain tight-lipped. “I plead the fifth; it will be incriminating to answer,” he said, humorously avoiding further details.

Akon’s remarks come following the public announcement of his divorce from his wife, Tomeka Thiam, in September 2025 after 28 years of marriage. The divorce, which cited irreconcilable differences, ended their long-term union, which produced a daughter named Journey.

The singer, whose real name is Aliaune Badara Thiam, has long been open about his belief in polygamy. In a 2022 interview with The Zeze Mills Show, Akon confirmed that he is the father of nine children.

There have also been reports and claims linking him to multiple women, including Rozina Negusei, Amirror, and Tricia Ann Thiam, with some suggesting that he has multiple wives. Amirror, a woman linked to Akon, revealed that they met in 2012 through a mutual producer while working on music projects. She joined Akon’s record label, Konvict Kulture, in 2018, which marked the start of their professional collaboration.
