Speaking on the Baaj and Paul podcast, Rosman argued that the focus on looks is undermining the development of genuine talent in Nollywood. She added that the pressure to conform to beauty standards has led some actresses to undergo cosmetic procedures to enhance their figures and facial features.

Nollywood actress Shine Rosman has raised concerns over the growing emphasis on physical appearance in the Nigerian film industry, saying that filmmakers increasingly prioritise beauty over acting talent when casting roles.

Speaking on the Baaj and Paul podcast, Rosman argued that the focus on looks is undermining the development of genuine talent in Nollywood. She added that the pressure to conform to beauty standards has led some actresses to undergo cosmetic procedures to enhance their figures and facial features.

“Majority of Nollywood filmmakers prioritise beauty over talent. There are good directors who value skill, but to be honest, most prefer beauty.

That is why you see many movie stars undergoing surgeries to enhance their bodies,” she said.

Rosman criticised the glorification of beauty in both the movie industry and Nigerian society, noting that opportunities are often denied to those who do not conform to trends such as heavy makeup or Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBL). She also alleged that some individuals without the necessary qualifications rely on their looks to secure acting roles.

The actress urged filmmakers and industry stakeholders to shift focus back to talent, warning that neglecting skills in favour of appearance could harm the future of Nollywood.
