Behind many large-scale gospel concerts and live music productions in Nigeria is a network of sound engineers and technical production specialists responsible for managing audio systems, stage coordination, and live event execution. Over the years, the growth of gospel concerts and worship events has also increased attention on the professionals working behind the scenes to deliver large live productions.
Edward Sunday, a Nigerian sound engineer and music producer involved in concert production, live audio engineering, and music recording. Born on October 30, 1973, in Ibadan, Oyo State, he is originally from Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State. He attended New Eden Primary School and later the University of Ibadan Staff School before studying Estate Management at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, where he obtained both an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND). In 2021, he received a PhD in Music, Sound Engineering, and Concert Production from ESCAE University.
Over time, he became involved in live music production, working in areas such as concert sound systems, acoustics, mixing and mastering, and technical coordination for worship gatherings and music events.
His work has been linked with The Experience, the annual gospel concert organized by House on the Rock Church, where he has served as part of the technical and sound production team. He has also worked with BJ Sax Live, including the concert’s 2024 international edition hosted at Indigo at The O2.
Through AZUZA Productions, he has participated in concert production and technical consulting for music-related events and performances. He has also contributed to several gospel music recordings as a sound engineer. Some of his credited works include Victory Song by Ada Ehi in 2014, All Power and Hossanah by Pat Uwaje King in 2015, and I Overcame (Live) by Ada Ehi in 2017.
Beyond studio and live production work, he has also been involved in mentoring younger sound engineers and producers interested in audio technology and concert production. He is affiliated with the Audio Engineering Society and the Forbes Member community.
His work in live sound production has also received recognition in recent years. In 2023, he received a Special Recognition Award at the Kingdom Achievers Awards. In 2024, he received the Gospel Experience Iconic Sound Engineer of the Year award, alongside the Global Influence Leadership Award and the President Joe Biden Lifetime Achievement Award.
He remains active in Nigeria’s live event and music production sector through technical consulting, sound engineering, and concert production work.
