Man Arrested For Threatening Tenant With Pistol
A landlord, who recently returned from the United States with a pistol, has been arrested by the police in Benin City, the Edo State capital, southsouth Nigeria, after he allegedly threatened his tenant with the gun.
It was learnt that the suspect, Mr. Ekuasee Shampa, also known as Champagne, threatened to shoot his tenant with the gun in an attempt to evict him from his house.
The suspect claimed that the tenant, Mr. Amadi Ogiriaklu, had been given a quit notice but had refused to vacate the apartment long after his rent expired. The landlord then used the gun to compel him to quit, witnesses said.
Police sources said that after he was arrested, Shampa claimed that he had just returned from the United States and was licenced there to own a gun and could not be challenged in Nigeria.
“I am the rightful owner, I own the gun men, I was licenced by the United State government and nobody can query my ownership of the said gun,” he was reported to have told the police.
P.M.NEWS learnt that there are efforts by the landlord’s friends and relatives to free him.
