Liverpool would have to pay some huge fee in compensation following the dismissal of head coach Arne Slot and his coaching staff.

The Dutchman’s tenure at Anfield began in impressive fashion after he succeeded Jurgen Klopp in 2024. Slot guided Liverpool to the Premier League title in his debut season, becoming one of the few managers to win the league in their first campaign in charge of the club.

However, fortunes changed dramatically during his second season. Despite being backed heavily in the transfer market, with Liverpool reportedly spending around £450 million on new signings last summer, the Reds struggled to maintain their momentum and failed to mount a successful title defence.

Liverpool ultimately finished fifth in the Premier League, ending the season 25 points behind champions Arsenal, prompting the club’s hierarchy to make a managerial change.

According to reports in the Netherlands, Liverpool will now have to pay approximately £9.5 million (€11 million) to terminate Slot’s contract and those of his coaching staff.

The compensation package adds to the cost of Liverpool’s managerial reshuffle as the club begins its search for a new head coach. Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has emerged as one of the leading candidates to replace Slot, with reports suggesting the Spaniard is high on Liverpool’s shortlist.

Despite his departure, Slot leaves Anfield having delivered Liverpool’s 20th English league title, ensuring his brief spell at the club will be remembered for its historic success as well as its disappointing conclusion.
