Former Liverpool manager Arne Slot has spoken publicly for the first time since leaving the club, thanking Liverpool and its supporters for their support during his two years at Anfield.

The 47-year-old Dutch coach said he was grateful for the opportunity to manage the club and proud of what was achieved during his time there.

“It’s been an amazing journey with Liverpool. I am very grateful that we were able to win the league last season,” Slot said.

Slot made history by guiding Liverpool to their 20th English top-flight league title in his first season. However, a disappointing fifth-place finish in the following campaign led to his departure.

Liverpool confirmed on Saturday that Slot had left his position as head coach with immediate effect. The club also announced that the search for a new manager is already underway.

In a statement, Liverpool praised Slot for his achievements, which included winning the Premier League title in his debut season, reaching the Carabao Cup final, advancing to the Champions League round of 16, and securing European qualification in his second season.

The club’s owners described the decision as a difficult one and thanked Slot for his professionalism, leadership, and commitment throughout his time at Anfield.

Liverpool acknowledged that Slot played an important role during a challenging period for the club and commended the character and empathy he showed in difficult moments.

The club also stated that Slot would always hold a special place in Liverpool’s history as the manager who delivered the club’s record-equalling 20th league title.

Liverpool wished Slot and his family well for the future and said they would always be welcome at Anfield.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Slot. Other managers linked with the position include Sebastian Hoeness of Stuttgart and Pierre Sage of Lens.
