Ekiti State Governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Biodun Oyebanji, has secured a resounding victory at his polling unit in the ongoing governorship election, further boosting confidence within the ruling party’s camp.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) secured two votes, while the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and the African Action Congress (AAC) recorded one vote each. Three votes were declared void.

The result underscored the governor’s strong support base in his home community as he seeks a second term in office.

The breakdown of votes showed APC with 326 votes, ADC with two votes, ADP and AAC with one vote apiece, while three ballots were invalidated.

Oyebanji cast his vote at the polling unit alongside his wife, Olayemi Oyebanji, at about 11:38 a.m. on Saturday.

Speaking after voting, the governor expressed optimism about his chances in the election and predicted that the APC would exceed its target of 500,000 votes statewide.

He also commended the turnout of voters across the state and appealed for patience amid reports of technical challenges experienced in some polling units.

The governor said he had received assurances from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that all eligible voters who turned out for the exercise would be allowed to cast their ballots despite the glitches.

Saturday’s governorship election is being keenly watched across the state, with voters choosing who will lead Ekiti for the next four years.

The landslide result at Oyebanji’s polling unit is expected to further energise APC supporters as collation of results continues across the state’s 16 local government areas.
