Galadima: Tinubu already playing the 2027 game

Buba Galadima

A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Buba Galadima, has said President Bola Tinubu is already playing the 2027 political game and may not give the opposition an easy ride.

A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Buba Galadima, has said President Bola Tinubu is already playing the 2027 political game and may not give the opposition an easy ride.

Galadima spoke on Tuesday while featuring on Arise Television’s Morning Show.

According to him, Tinubu has been more focused on politics than governance since he was inaugurated as President.

The NDC chieftain said he had spent the last two years criticising the All Progressives Congress, APC, administration because, in his view, the government had not delivered enough democratic dividends to Nigerians.

“For the last two years I have been criticising the APC and its government because from the day Tinubu was inaugurated as Nigeria’s president, he started politicking and not delivering the services and democratic dividends to the people of Nigeria,” Galadima said.

He claimed that Tinubu does not want to face a strong opposition in 2027.

Galadima alleged that the President would rather weaken opposition candidates and political parties before the next general election.

According to him, the National Assembly is also playing a role in what he described as a wider political battle against opposition parties.

“It doesn’t matter whether it’s right, democracy must outlive them. I have also said times without number that the President never wants to compete with anybody.

“He will try to destroy all opposition candidates and parties and he is actively being supported by the National Assembly,” he said.

Galadima further claimed that the judiciary had now been drawn into the political contest ahead of 2027.

“Now they have dragged the judiciary to it as a complimentary part of the larger picture that this government of APC is trying to create for Nigerians,” he added.

The NDC chieftain, however, insisted that Nigeria’s democracy would survive beyond the current administration and the ruling party.

He said any attempt to weaken democratic competition would not stop Nigerians from demanding political alternatives.

“Democracy will survive whether APC or Tinubu is trying to subvert it. It will survive and outlive them,” Galadima said.
