Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce set New York on fire with rumoured wedding party

Quick Read

About 100 people were reportedly expected at Thursday’s event, while a much bigger gathering of up to 1,000 guests has been linked to Friday’s celebration at the arena.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have sent New York into a frenzy as rumoured wedding celebrations began with a star-studded event at Madison Square Garden.

The pop superstar and her American football-player fiancé have not publicly confirmed that a wedding is taking place, but activity around the iconic New York arena has fuelled intense speculation.

High-profile guests, including actress Lena Dunham and Swift’s longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, were spotted heading to the venue on Thursday evening in formal attire.

Aerial footage showed black SUVs arriving at Madison Square Garden, with guests dropped off under a large white canopy tent erected outside the venue.

The event has been described in media reports as either a pre-party or a possible rehearsal dinner ahead of a larger celebration expected on Friday.

About 100 people were reportedly expected at Thursday’s event, while a much bigger gathering of up to 1,000 guests has been linked to Friday’s celebration at the arena.

Security around Madison Square Garden was tight as police officers, camera crews, reporters and fans gathered outside the venue despite intense heat in the city.

Media outlets followed every movement around the arena, from barricades being placed on the streets to trucks, event workers and equipment being moved into the venue.

A sign near one entrance also warned that people entering the venue between June 29 and July 3 were consenting to being filmed or photographed for an “event,” further fuelling speculation that something major was being recorded inside.

Swift and Kelce were reportedly expected to use underground access to the arena for privacy, while other guests arrived through the covered entrance.

Fans gathered outside Madison Square Garden hoping to catch a glimpse of the couple or any clue about the rumoured wedding celebrations.

One fan, Ryan Weng, said he came to witness what he described as the “alleged wedding,” adding that he had loved Swift for more than 15 years.

Another fan, Rusty Carbaug, wore a Kansas-themed shirt in honour of Kelce, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Speculation around the event intensified after crews were seen unloading equipment, including a large white staircase prop, a mirror ball and other materials.

Workers were also reportedly seen rolling out a red carpet earlier in the week before it was quickly removed.

The celebrity arrivals later added more weight to the rumours.

Antonoff, one of Swift’s closest musical collaborators, was reportedly seen in a tuxedo, while his sister, designer Rachel Antonoff, arrived in a pink dress.

Sports broadcaster Erin Andrews was spotted in a silver gown, while Swift’s longtime publicist, Tree Paine, was seen in a light blue dress.

Reports also linked Bradley Cooper, Gigi Hadid and Selena Gomez to events in New York as speculation continued to build.

Madison Square Garden, best known as a sports and entertainment arena, has now become the centre of global attention over what fans believe could be one of the biggest celebrity wedding celebrations in recent memory.

Some fans questioned whether Swift would choose such a venue for a wedding, given its history as a major sports arena rather than a traditional romantic setting.

Others argued that with Swift’s resources and eye for detail, the venue could be transformed into whatever she wants it to become.

For now, neither Swift nor Kelce has confirmed the exact nature of the celebration.

But the security, celebrity arrivals, street closures, tents, event permits and fan excitement have already turned the rumoured wedding event into a major New York spectacle.
