Brentford have secured the long-term future of highly rated defender Michael Kayode after handing him a new contract that runs until 2032.
The Premier League club announced the deal on Friday, confirming that the Italy Under-21 international has committed his future to the Bees until the summer of 2032.
The agreement also includes an option for a further year.
Kayode, 21, joined Brentford from Fiorentina on loan in January 2025 before the move was made permanent.
Since arriving in England, the athletic full-back has quickly become one of Brentford’s most important young players.
He has made 56 appearances across all competitions and played a key role in the club’s impressive 2025/26 campaign, which ended with a ninth-place finish in the Premier League.
His performances also earned him a nomination for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.
Brentford head coach, Keith Andrews, praised Kayode’s development and said the new contract was fully deserved.
“Michael had an amazing season last year. He epitomised everything good that we do. His development and evolution has been really, really impressive,” Andrews said.
“He’s someone that we love working with every single day, who comes in with such an enthusiastic demeanour, and is a joy to be around and to coach.
“We’re absolutely delighted that he wants to stay because we love having him here, and this new contract is absolutely deserved.”
Kayode started his career in Italy and was once part of Juventus’ youth setup.
He later had a spell with Serie D side Gozzano before joining Fiorentina, where he continued his development.
The defender made his Serie A debut in 2023 and went on to feature regularly for Fiorentina, including during their run to the UEFA Conference League final in 2024.
Since moving to West London, Kayode has settled quickly into English football.
He scored his first Brentford goal with a header against Wolves and has also become known for his energy, defensive strength and dangerous long throw-ins.
His rise has not gone unnoticed, with fans of other Premier League clubs reacting to Brentford’s decision to tie him down for the long term.
One football account described the move as “smart business” from Brentford, saying the club had secured one of Europe’s brightest young right-backs.
Another fan said the contract showed Brentford knew they had “a gem” and were not ready to let him go cheaply.
Supporters of Arsenal and Liverpool also reacted with disappointment, suggesting Kayode had been on their radar as a possible future signing.
The new deal represents a major statement from Brentford.
