Isolo Set To Kick Out Polio

As part of efforts aimed at eradicating polio and propagate the campaign on the essence of immunization at the grassroots, the Chairman of Isolo Local Council Development Area, Alhaji Shamsudeen Abiodun Olaleye, has inaugurated a special task force on the eradication of polio in the council area.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Olaleye noted that efforts have been intensified to eradicate polio over the years but regrettably Nigeria ranks among the four countries including Pakistan, Afghanistan and India where the dreaded disease is still prevalent.

However, he affirmed that the state has been adjudged to be polio-free in the past years now except in other parts of the country where 44 cases of polio infection had been recorded.

He said:“As part of the steps towards achieving the total eradication of polio and campaign aggressively on immunisation, the state government recently inaugurated a 16-member task force on immunisation and polio eradication. This is to ensure that the people of the state enjoy adequate healthcare and prevent endemic diseases.

“This task force committee is informed by the need to institutionalise routine immunisation within Isolo Local Council Development Area and to upgrade the council’s commitment to immunisation,” he added.
