Nigerian Facebook content creator, Ogheneovo Bridget Ogorode, popularly known as Queen the Gbola Girl has announced the birth of a baby boy, bringing to an end month of intense speculation, online debates and controversy surrounding her pregnancy and gender identity.

The social media personality, who became widely known after publicly revealing that she is intersex— a person born with sex characteristics that do not fit typical definitions of male or female—shared the news of the baby’s arrival on her Facebook page, where followers and well-wishers flooded the comment section with congratulatory messages.

The birth has once again thrust Queen into the spotlight, with many Nigerians expressing surprise that someone widely described online as a “hermaphrodite” could become pregnant and deliver a child.

Queen first attracted widespread attention in 2024 after disclosing that she was born with both male and female sexual characteristics. Through a series of Facebook videos and media interviews, she sought to educate the public about her condition while challenging stereotypes surrounding intersex people.

Before her pregnancy, Queen had given varying accounts of her anatomy and identity in different interviews. In one widely circulated podcast, she said she possessed both male and female reproductive organs and claimed she had fathered children with women, while also saying she identified more as a man in her relationships. Those comments generated widespread debate and skepticism online.

Her pregnancy, however, dramatically changed the conversation. As her baby bump became more visible in photographs and videos posted on social media, many Nigerians questioned whether her earlier claims were accurate. While some congratulated her and accepted that intersex conditions vary widely from one individual to another, others accused her of using sensational claims to build an online following.

Throughout the pregnancy, Queen largely ignored her critics, continuing to post updates and maternity photographs while insisting that her experience reflected the complexity of being intersex.

The word, “intersex,” describes people born with variations in chromosomes, hormones, reproductive anatomy or genitalia. Depending on the specific condition, some intersex individuals have a uterus and ovaries and are capable of becoming pregnant and giving birth, while others cannot.

The announcement of the baby’s birth has therefore reignited public discussions about intersex identity, biology and widespread misconceptions surrounding people born with differences in sex development.

Queen’s journey has also been marked by persistent online scrutiny. Since revealing her condition, she has faced accusations that her story was fabricated, while others questioned her gender identity, relationships and physical appearance. Despite the criticism, she continued to document her life on Facebook, saying she wanted to create awareness and encourage acceptance of intersex people.

Her marriage also generated public attention after she held a traditional wedding ceremony with her partner, an event that sparked another wave of debate across social media, with many users questioning the authenticity of both the marriage and her claims about being intersex.

With the safe delivery of her baby boy, many observers say the latest chapter in Queen’s life has become one of the most talked-about human-interest stories on Nigerian social media this year.

Although the birth has not silenced every skeptic, supporters say it has provided another opportunity to educate the public about intersex conditions and the diversity of human biology, while congratulating the content creator on the arrival of her newborn son.
