2027: Kano gov Abba Yusuf retains deputy as running mate
Quick Read
“I have no regrets choosing Garo as my deputy in the last few months, and he has proven to be the right choice so far,” Yusuf said.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has retained his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.
Yusuf announced the decision during a strategic meeting with federal political appointees at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, according to a statement issued on Monday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa.
The governor said Garo had earned another place on the ticket through his loyalty, competence and contribution to the administration since assuming office.
“I have no regrets choosing Garo as my deputy in the last few months, and he has proven to be the right choice so far,” Yusuf said.
“I want to confirm to you that I have every confidence in him.”
The governor described Garo as a dependable partner who had shown commitment and responsibility in carrying out his duties.
He said the deputy governor’s support had strengthened the administration’s efforts to deliver its development agenda and fulfil promises made to Kano residents.
“His contributions have been remarkable, and his commitment to the progress of Kano State has remained unquestionable,” Yusuf added.
“Together, we will continue to work towards achieving the goals we set for our people.”
Garo became Kano deputy governor in May following the resignation of Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo after Yusuf’s defection to the All Progressives Congress. President Bola Tinubu later congratulated Garo on his appointment and called for unity within the Kano APC.
Yusuf has already been adopted as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election, clearing the way for the continuation of the Yusuf-Garo ticket.
The governor urged party leaders, political appointees and supporters to remain united as the administration prepares for the election.
He said the government would stay focused on consolidating its achievements and addressing the challenges facing Kano State.
The announcement ends speculation over whether Yusuf would choose another running mate for his second-term campaign.
