Anxiety Over Majek Fashek’s Health

“As we mourn the death of the legendary songstress, Whitney Houston, I am personally saddened because she was one of those who sang love songs with meaning. With the amount of sympathy being shown, it is obvious that in her 48 years on earth, she has made an indelible mark in music history. Adieu! WH.

“However, I wish to notify everyone of a trend that has become so rampant that needs to be nipped in the bud. Why do we often celebrate the dead but never pay them as much emotions \attention whilst they are alive?

“Please, find on my DP a recent picture of the legend, Majek Fashek, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated talents. Accurate details of him yet elude me as to how his health deteriorated to this point and what led him into this situation, but I dare say that the ‘Rain Maker’ remains an icon, like Fela, to Nigeria\Africa.”

These are the remarks of Uche Nnaji, a fan of Majek Fashek which she has been sending to her contacts and friends on her blackberry device.

Apart from Nnaji, other Nigerians especially friends, fans and well wishers are saddened by the dishevelled appearance of the ‘Rain Maker’, Majek Fashek, who arrived in Nigeria from his base in Chicago, United States of America unannounced.

P.M.Entertainment investigation and feelers from show promoters who have featured Majek in a couple of shows since his arrival revealed that all is not well with the ‘send down the rain crooner’

During a chance meeting with the top reggae star at a show packaged by Hemmalux Entertainment at the Wise Forest Suites, Ikeja, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, on 10 February 2012, the star singer looked terribly gaunt, haggard and unkempt.

He was scheduled to perform as a guest artiste alongside Tunde Samson, Segun Opontisun, King Wadada and others.

He had to be ushered back into his suite because of his state and those that attended the show wondered whether the man they are looking at is truly Majek Fashek or another person. Though Majek Fashek did not eventually perform, the show was a success in terms of attendance and performance.

Earlier, on 24 December last year, Majek fumbled at a show held at the New Afrika Shrine, Agidingbi, Ikeja, as he could not live up to expectation in terms of appearance and performance.

Since his arrival from USA last year, he has always been in company of two guys who pose as his managers. The guys are said to have been approaching show promoters to feature Majek on their bill.

However, there are insinuations that his condition could be spiritual or substance abuse which require prompt attention.
