CAT Gives Fashola Recognition Award
For his ability to sustain the successive staging of the Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship since assuming office in May 2007, the Confederation of Africa Tennis, CAT, has honoured Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola with a Long and Outstanding Contribution to the game of Tennis Award.
The tennis governing body on the continent, through the Nigeria Tennis Federation, NTF, had in a letter, informed Fashola of being a recipient of the award, which will be presented in Cairo on 13 April.
The NTF congratulated the governor for the recognition and wished that he would receive many of such awards in the future.
Meanwhile, Governor Fashola, through his Chief of Staff, Lanre Babalola, has written to appreciate CAT for the award. He assured the African tennis body of the Lagos State Government’s support for the development of the game.
The Governor’s Cup, an International Tennis Federation, ITF-approved circuit with $80,000 prize money, has continued to attract emerging world tennis stars to Lagos since inception 12 years ago.
More importantly, the support of Fashola to the Governor’s Cup since he came to office has attracted the sponsorship of telecommunication company, Etisalat, and a new generation bank, FCMB, with other co sponsors to boost its organisation in the past few years.
The tournament enters its 12th edition this year and the Local Organising Committee, LOC, headed by Pius Akinyelure has promised a glamorous tournament in October.
