Lawmaker Flays FG Over Power Outage
The Chairman, House Committee on Energy, Mineral Resources and Waterfront Infrastructure in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Lanre Ogunyemi, has strongly criticised the Federal Government over the incessant power failure currently being witnessed in major parts of the country.
Ogunyemi wondered why the Federal Government seems helpless about what action to take regarding the continuous darkness in the country, despite the huge sums of money that have been pumped into the power sector in the past.
He added that the issue has become a kind of inhuman treatment of the people by the government that is supposed to maintain the trust of its citizens.
“It is noted with utter dismay, the continued slide in power generation in the country with its attendant power outages and untold hardship and consequences on businesses and the citizenry.
“It is also observed that the power problem in the country has all round effect on health, education and the general well-being of the people.
“It is unfortunate that countries like Ghana, Benin Republic, Chad and South Africa, have been enjoying uninterrupted power flow for several years, while billions of naira have been wasted by the Federal Government without corresponding positive result on national power supply.
“The government has so far not displayed a good understanding and grasp of the problem and its power reform efforts have so far yielded no fruits,” he lamented, just as he said the power problem in the country has brought about insecurity.
He said if the Federal Government was serious with boosting the economy of the country to make her the financial hub of Africa and a key player in the world, like the government had continued to preach, the current power state must be reversed for the better.
