With less than a week before the dunk off of the last phase of the Zenith Bank-sponsored Nigerian Women’s league in Lagos, First Deepwater golden girl and reigning Most Valuable Player, MVP, of the domestic league, Nkechi Akashili has said their target is to remain unbeaten for the entire season.
The experienced combo-guard made this disclosure during a chat with P.M.Sports recently at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
Akashili, who consistently stamped her authority throughout their matches this season said: “Now that we are almost certain of lifting the trophy we have won twice in the last two season again this season, our target is to win it in style by remaining unbeaten through out the season.
“We will ensure that we remain focused in all our remaining matches and and by God’s Grace we won’t let our fans and the management down.”
Meanwhile, coach of the team and former Nigeria international, Lateaf Erinfolami has ruled out any injury threat to his team, as they intensify preparation for the Lagos phase of the league.
“There is no injury problem in my team and we are battle ready to take on all our opponents as the tourney dunks off on Wednesday,” he said.
He, however, disclosed that his team might be deprived of 2 to 3 players for the first couple of matches due to their involvement in academic examination at their various schools, adding that their fans need not worry about it as the coaching crew have reliable replacments for them.
