Federation Cup: Big Teams Crash Out

The ongoing Federation Cup yesterday recorded shocking upsets that saw some big teams in the Nigeria Premier League, NPL, crashed out of the oldest football tournament in Nigeria.

Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan, 3SC and Wikki Tourists of Bauchi were bundled out in the Round of 60.

Other big guns who lost out were Nigeria National League, NNL, teams FC Taraba and Gateway FC.

In Sagamu, Fame Academy recorded one of the biggest upsets of the Round of 60 when they beat Shooting Stars 2-1.

“We’re very disappointed to have lost, but we will now focus on the league because we wish to play on the continent next year,” said 3SC coach, Tunde Odubola.

Shooting Stars took the lead in the 38th minute through striker, Ighodalo Osagona, before the youngsters from Lagos drew level in the 69th minute courtesy of Obieje Ugo.

Adigwe Victor secured victory for Fame Academy five minutes from full time against a 3SC side who were without eight of their recent signing because they were not registered for the cup competition.

In Minna, Wikki lost 0-2 to NNL side, Prime FC of Oshogbo. Another upset was in Lokoja, where Dynamite FC beat FC Taraba 1-0.
