Table Tennis: Olumefun Writes Off Team Nigeria

Former national table tennis coach, Wole Olumefun, has declared that Nigerians should not expect much from the table tennis team at the London 2012 Olympic Games which gets underway on Friday.

The former trainer decried the level of preparation of the team, saying that the authorities failed to prepare the Nigerian players very well for the hostilities at the Games, which will parade top ping pongers across the world.

The coach lamented that the Germany training tour for the team was not good enough as there was no difference in the type of  preparation in the past few years. He noted that the exposure needed by the players to excel at the Olympics was not given to them.

Olumefun, who had handled the country’s table tennis players  to successful outings in the past  including the All Africa Games in  Harare, Zimbabwe in 1995, said the Nigerian players for this year’s Olympics are good but lack the needed technical inputs of a sound coach to guide the team to a successful outing at the London Games.
