Help Find Missing Journalist, Lagos Charges CDAs, NWs

The Lagos State Government has charged Community Development Associations, CDAs and Neighbourhood Watch, NW, officers to help comb the grassroots for the missing journalist, Aremu Gawat.

Speaking at the monthly stakeholders meeting, organised by the Ministry of Rural Development, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Babatunde Hunpe urged that “as watchers and the security personnel at the grassroots, you must put your ears on the ground to uncover the mystery of the disappearance of the ace broadcaster, Alhaji Aremu Gawat, that has been declared missing about two weeks now.”

He appealed to them to be more vigilant in their community policing efforts to unravel the mystery of missing people in the state.

While charging them to be more discipline by doing the right thing at the right time and always respond promptly whenever they were called upon, he reminded them that the knowledge gained at the meeting must be passed on to their members when they got to their various destinations.

Director, Community Development, Rural Development, Mr. Eniola Awolaru, urged the CDAs to always carry their members along in any project decision embarked on in other to avoid rancour.

He noted that the ministry has had to intervene and settle problems within CDAs because of lack of information among members.

Awolaru urged them to educate their members not to contravene building laws in the state by erecting structures on right of ways as there would not be any compensation to such landlord if government had to demolish such structure.

The Director, Enforcement and Compliance, Lagos Waste Management Agency, LAWMA, Mr. Ayo Williams said the agency had just created a unit tagged Local Policing with the mandate to stop people from dropping  refuse on the highways, road sides and medians.

He solicited the cooperation of NWs in this area as they might need to collaborate with them in all areas where they wanted to operate.

A representative of Ministry of Health, Dr. Abimbola Ajayi charged the CDAs and NWs to eat balanced diet at all times and live a healthy life to be able to live long, saying that for someone to live long and be healthy, such must start from early age by eating balance diet with more fruits and vegetables.
