PDP BOT: My Resignation In Africa’s Interest —OBJ
Ex-President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has said that his resignation as the Chairman Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was to enable him concentrate on international issues.
He added that he decided to resign in order to attract business opportunities to Nigeria in particular and Africa in general in view of the happenings in Europe and America.
He said he holds no grudge against Gbenga Daniel, the former Ogun State Governor nor against other aggrieved members of the PDP in the state.
Obasanjo urged party executives in the state to open the party’s doors to everybody regardless of their antecedents.
He described the PDP as a great party and asked members of the party to forge ahead. The former president charged the party’s executive members to make transparency and accountability their watchwords
“I have no grudge against anybody provided they adhere strictly to the constitution of the party,” Obasanjo declared.
The party has been enmeshed in leadership crisis which divided the party into four factions with Messrs Obasanjo and Daniel, as well as Buruji Kashamu and Jubril Martins-Kuye leading the factions.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the party, Oladipo Odujinrin, disclosed that the party’s structure has been set up from ward to state levels.
He urged all aggrieved members to visit the reconciliation committee which started its sittings in Abeokuta.
Also, the party’s publicity secretary, Bidemi Osunbiyi, described members who allegedly held a meeting under the platform of PDP progressives, as defectors that are yet to revalidate their membership.
Osunbiyi added that some loyalists of Daniel, including Iyabo Apampa, are still with the Peoples Party of Nigeria and the Labour Party.
