Four Prostitutes Sentenced To Community Service

An Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, has sentenced four suspected prostitutes to 24 hours community service for loitering and soliciting male passersby.

They were sentenced by Magistrate Alli Balogun after they pleaded guilty to one-count charge of prostitution and constituting a nuisance to residents of Lekki Phase 1, Eti Osa, Lagos.

The police at Maroko Division, Victoria  Island, Lagos, stated in charge suit No. 61/40/2012 that the convicts, Patience Odey 20, Cynthia Okoro 17, Jenny Akpan 28 and Adeniyi Kafayat, 25, were arrested on 4 November, 2012 at about 2 a.m along Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, Eti Osa Lagos. They were rounded up following a complaint by residents of the Estate Lekki that some unidentified women were constituting a nuisance in the area by loitering and offering sex for sale.

The offence the prosecution, Oladeja Balogun, said is contrary to and punishable under Section 142 (1) (b) of the Criminal Law of the Lagos State government, 2011.

They pleaded guilty to the facts of the matter presented to the court by the prosecutor, and the presiding magistrate sentenced them to 24 hours community service at the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court. They were ordered to clean the the court and its premises.
