Isoko Nation Joins APC

Isoko Political Front (IPF), the umbrella body of Isoko Progressive Forces in Delta State has formally pitched its tent with the yet-to-be registered All Progressives Congress, APC.

With this merger, the IPF which formed the stronghold of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), in Delta State during the last general elections, might have technically merged with the APC.

In a communique issued at the end of a crucial meeting of the group which held at Ozoro, the administrative headquarters of Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, the IPF said it was imperative for all progressive-minded groups to key into the wind of change blowing across the country.

The communique which was signed by Prof. Isaac Adakpo and Dillion Oyuwe, National and Deputy National Secretary of IPF respectively, said: “Arising from recent national political developments leading to the coalescence of the progressive forces nation-wide, it becomes imperative for the Isokos to identify with the progressive political movement wind of change across the nation.

“Consequently, IPF rising from its general session held Sunday 7 July, 2013, formally endorse the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the vehicle of Isoko political expression and liberation. IPF thus hereby directs all Isoko sons and daughters, youths, market women, professionals groups, associations to register en-masse with the APC.”

The IPF was founded to give the Isoko ethnic nationality conscience, consciousness, a role in Delta State and national voice, as well as to be the mouthpiece of the people of the Isoko nation.

Meanwhile, the IPF has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden demise of Senator Pius Akpor Ewherido who until his death, represented Delta Central Senatorial District in the Senate on the platform of the DPP.

In a press statement signed by its national leader, Senator F. S. Okposo and others, the group described the late Ewherido as a delight, a communicator, lawmaker and people’s representative who will be missed by all.

“Our most sincere and heartfelt condolences go to his wife and children, family members friends and the people of Delta Central Senatorial District of Delta State and the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement said.
