Yero says killing of Sheikh Albani ‘satanic and wicked’

Former Kaduna Governor Mukhtar Yero

Governor Mukhtar Yero of the northern Nigerian state of Kaduna has described the killing of renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Muhammad Albani and members of his family, as `satanic and wicked’.

The governor’s Director-General on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Ahmed Maiyaki in Kaduna quoted the governor as assuring the people that the government would work with the security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators were apprehended.

“We shall leave no stone unturned in unravelling those behind the dastardly act; we shall work with the security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators were arrested.

“The killing of Sheikh Albani is an indication that despite the improvement in security situation of the state some people are still bent on creating tension in our communities.

“Albani stands for truth; he contributed in no small ways in impacting Islamic education on the people, particularly the younger generation,” the statement quoted the governor.

The governor in the statement commiserated with the family of the deceased, urging the followers of the late scholar to remain calm and law abiding.

He promised the followers of the scholar that their leader would not die in vain as government would ensure that the perpetrators of the killing were brought to justice.

Meanwhile, the Police Command in Kaduna said it has commenced manhunt for the perpetrators of the act.

The police spokesman, Aminu Lawan, told NAN in a telephone interview that the incidence happened around 8p.m in Gaskiya Area of Zaria, on Saturday.

He said that the scholar was killed while he was on his way home with his family after the Tafsir prayers.

Lawan urged the people in Zaria and its environs to assist the command with any useful information that would aid the investigation, and to also forestall any future recurrence.

The scholar, his wife and son were killed on Saturday night in Zaria, Kaduna State.
