All Set For APC’s Convention

All is set for the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

At the convention scheduled for Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, on Friday, it is expected that the party’s national officers will be elected. The high point of the event will be the election of the party’s national chairman.

Candidates jostling for the position are former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi; Chief Odigie Oyegun also a former Edo State governor; Timipre Sylva, former Bayelsa State governor and Sam Jaja, for PDP Deputy National Chairman. According to Chris Ngige, former Anambra State governor and the convention secretary, 12 sub-committees have  been constituted to ensure a hitch-free convention.

“Nigerians will see a convention that is transparent from which democratically elected leaders will emerge for our party in the next four years. In November or December, this particular executive we are going to put in place will organise another National Convention to elect our  presidential candidate,” Ngige said.

He further stated that no position has been zoned to any part of the country.

Meanwhile, there are reports that APC has uncovered a plot to split the convention. It was alleged that some forces in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are working on an APC chairmanship aspirant to stage a walk out at the convention and declare with his supporters for the PDP to give the impression that the APC is a party  divided against itself.
