Niger East senatorial re-run holds amidst tight security

The Niger East senatorial re-run election was held on Saturday amidst tight security in the polling units.

Men of the Police, Department of State Security, Civil Defence as well as Niger Vigilante Group were on ground on all the units when voting started by midday after heavy rain.

NAN reports that there was low turnout of voters.

In Nasarawa Ward B of Chanchaga, only 59 of the 258 registered voters were accredited to vote, while in Beji 01 Unit of Bosso council, only 190 out of 649 registered voters were accredited.

Out of 764 registered voters, only 245 came out for accreditation at Kpanuwa in Paikoro Local Government Area.

NAN noticed in some polling units that voters turn round to display the party they voted for before folding the ballot paper and putting them into the box.

Counting of votes started shortly after voting in some units and the result is being awaited.
