PDP primaries: Ribadu, others endorse acting governor

Malam Nuhu Ribadu and other aspirants who withdrew from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries for the 11 October Adamawa bye-election on Saturday in Yola resolved to support the state Acting Governor, Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri.

Prof. Andrawus Sawa, spokesman for the aspirants, told newsmen after a meeting with the acting governor in Yola, that they took the decision in the interest of Adamawa and in solidarity with the acting governor.

“We have decided to link up with the acting governor and directed all our ward delegates from the 21 local government areas to merge together and cast their votes for the acting governor,” Sawa said.

Sawa who led the group at the news conference, said Fintiri had assured them that if elected, he would just conclude the remaining tenure of ousted Gov. Murtala Nyako which would end in May 2015.

The aspirants present at the conference were Nuhu Ribadu, Auwal Bamanga, James Barka, Marcus Gundiri, Aliyu Kama and Abubakar Girei.

Commenting on the situation, Fintiri expressed gratitude to the aspirants for stepping down and their resolve to support him.

Meanwhile, some of the aspirants contesting the primaries with Fintiri have expressed confidence to emerge victorious.

Buba Marwa, Ahmed Gulak, Umar Ardo, Jerry Kundisi and Ahmed Modibbo said they were confident that victory would com their ways.

“I feel comfortable and confident. With my credentials and experience, track record and background, I have no fear and will leave everything for the electorate to decide,” Marwa said.

NAN reports that accreditation of delegates was still on going as at 5:00 p.m. because the earlier accreditation made was cancelled.
