Voters complain over distribution of PVCs in Adamawa

The distribution of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which enters its second day in Adamawa, is yet to begin in Toungo and Numan local government areas.
A cross section of the people, who spoke to the NAN in the affected areas, said since the commencement of the exercise on Tuesday they were yet to see any official to attend to them.
“We are still waiting for them in Toungo; as I speak to you now the exercise is yet to commence in most places,” Joseph Haruna said.
Three residents in the area, Musa Abdullahi, Michael Abraham and Rejoice Haruna, said the story was the same in Numan Local Government Area.
“Nothing is happening in our area though some people told me that they learnt that the exercise was going on in two units but I cannot confirm that.
“This is a three-day exercise; what will be our fate in Numan?” Haruna asked.
When contacted, Adamawa INEC Head of Department Publicity, Mrs Rifkatu Duku, said cards for the affected areas were still expected to arrive in the state.
Duku said whenever the cards arrived, the people would be given the required three days to enable them to obtain the cards.
Meanwhile, Wednesday and Thursday were declared work-free days by the Adamawa Government to enable workers to obtain their cards.
Banks in the state have also suspended operations in compliance with the directive.
NAN reports that in Yola, the exercise was, however, going on smoothly in most units with shorter queues when compared to the beginning of the exercise on Tuesday.
