Okowa, others in Bayelsa as Dickson takes oath as Gov

Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, accompanied by his wife, Edith, Sunday led top government functionaries to the swearing in of Seriake Dickson and Rear Admiral Gboribiogha Jonah as Governor and Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State respectively.
Senators, elected and other political appointees, especially, those from Ijaw nation accompanied Governor Okowa to the colourful ceremony which took place at the Samson Stadium, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Governor Okowa was among the early arrivals to the event which was attended by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors and leadership from different parts of the country.

Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kate Abiri administered oath of office to Governor Dickson and his Deputy.

Speaking at the occasion, Hon. Dickson assured the people of Bayelsa State of consolidation on his achievements during his first administration while calling for respect for the sanctity of separation of powers.

“I thank everyone who stood his or her ground to ensure that the election was not manipulated. We should also have respect for the sanctity of separation of power as enshrined in our constitution,” he said, reiterating that elective positions should be attained through people’s vote rather than through subterfuge.

The Governor observed that his emergence as Governor has inspired a new sense of hope for the Judiciary, noting that the people’s will would prevail through the ballot box in a democratic environment.
