The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has condemned the gruesome murder of the civil society activist and human rights defender, Ken Atsuwete in Port Harcourt.

MOSOP called on the Government of Rivers State and the security agencies to leave no stone unturned in apprehending the perpetrators.

Reacting to the murder of the human rights lawyer on Thursday, the President of MOSOP, Mr. Legborsi Saro Pyagbara said the murder should be condemned by all.

“The killing of Ken Atsuwete is bad and should be condemned by all, especially all lovers of peace and justice, as well as those that stand for a just society. It is unfortunate that our dear Ken is yet another victim of growing and worrisome insecurity in the state arising from questionable security lapses especially in the state capital, Port Harcourt”.

“Whilst we are unaware of what may have led to his murder, we are sure that no one has the right to take any person’s life no matter the offence as there are available options in our system for seeking redress rather than the resort to such dastardly act.”

“If the idea of killing late Atsuwete is to create fear and silence vocal civil society actors and defenders of human rights and justice then they have miscalculated as the effort at bringing about a just and decent society where people are free to express themselves must continue.”
