Hoodlums invade Senate, escape with mace

Suspected hoodlums have invaded the Senate Chambers, disrupted the ongoing proceedings and escaped with the mace.

Unconfirmed report had it that the suspected hoodlums were supporters of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege who was suspended last week.

However, there is heightened security at the National Assembly and the Senate has gone into a closed-door session.

The mace is the symbol of authority in the National Assembly without which no decision can be reached on the floor of the legislature.

According to TVC, this is not the not first time such incident would happen at the National Assembly. It once happened during the Obasanjo administration when the mace was allegedly taken to Okija shrine.
