A Karu Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday sentenced a 28-year-old man, Sadiq Aliyu, to five months imprisonment for stealing a Toyota Corolla car.
The convict of no fixed address, had pleaded guilty to a charge of theft, and begged for leniency.
The judge, Mr Hassan Ishaq, however, gave the convict N15, 000 option of fine.
The prosecutor, Mr Edwin Ochanyi, had told the court that the convict committed the crime on March 25.
“The black Toyota Corolla car with registration number MUS 119 DA was stolen from the parking lot at River Park Garden, Wuse 2, Abuja on March 25.
“On March 29, during routine operation by operatives from Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad, led by Insp. Nasiru Kadiri, the defendant was arrested in the process of disposing the said stolen car.
“During police investigation, the defendant confessed to have committed the crime,” Ochanyi said.
The prosecutor told the court that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.
