3 hoodlums jailed for robbing motorists in Lagos

An Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos has sentenced three hoodlums terrorising and robbing members of the public and motorists at the Law School bus stop and Muri Okunola Park area of Victoria Island, Lagos of their belongings on a daily basis to six months imprisonment each without an options of fine.

The convicts identified as Oladele Dada, 25, Mutiu Bolaji, 30 and Damilola Faleye, 28 were jailed by Magistrate M.O Ope Agbe after the convicts pleaded guilty to the four count charges of robbing a driver, Emmanuel Akpata and Femi Michael of their infinite phone valued at N28,000, blackberry Classic phone, valued at N35,000 and N5,000 cash and inflicted grievous injuries occasioning harm on them with broken bottles and knives at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, Lagos when the Iveco truck with Reg. number EKY 779 XT they were travelling broke down in the area.

Police alleged that the journey to jail started for the convicts on 18 June, 2018 at about 7.30pm at Muri Okunola Park, when they rushed out from under the flowers at the Park with others still at large, armed with broken bottles and knives, stabs the complainants in their body and robbed them of their belongings.

Police said that nemesis, however, caught up with the suspects when a team of police on a patrol arrived the scene and arrested the convicts while others escaped.

During investigation, the convicts confessed to the crime that they usually hide inside the flowers at Muri Okunola Park at the Law School bus stop under bridge to rob road users and motorists whose vehicles broke down in the night and early in the morning in the area.

The convicts were charged to court.for stealing and stabbing occasioning grievous injuries, offences punishable under sections 411, 245, 287 and 355 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The convicts pleaded guilty to the charges in the open court and the facts of the matter presented before the court by the Police Counsel, Cyriacus Osuji.

Magistrate M.O Ope Agbe subsequently sentenced the convicts to six months imprisonment without an options of fine.
