3 Governors Honoured
The governors of Lagos, Ogun and Akwa Ibom States were honoured by the African Church Cathedral in Lagos on Sunday.
In their separate responses, they urged Nigerians to elect leaders whose contributions would change their lives for the better next year.
The occasion was the Founders Day and Thanksgiving of the African Church Cathedral Bethel on Broad Street, Lagos Island.
Also honoured was the Acting Lay President, Chief Ebenezer Okunowo.
Gov. Babatunde Fashola of Lagos state, represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Sarah Sosan, thanked the church for appreciating government’s protection of the Victorian model church building.
The contractors, who were invited to demolish the collapsed Bank of Industry building near the church, wanted to demolish it but for the intervention of government.
Fashola promised to deliver more dividends of democracy to the residents of the state and urged Nigerians to elect only credible leaders whose interest would be the people.
He said that when people-minded leaders were elected into office, there would be no place for anti-people policies.
Gov. Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, represented by his wife, Mrs. Ekaette, also expressed gratitude to the church for honouring him for what he had done for the church and his state.
He urged the people to vote with their conscience for credible leaders who would take care of them.
Akpabio called on the church to pray for Nigerian leaders to lead the people with the fear of God.
Gov. Gbenga Daniel, represented by the Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Josephine Shoboyejo, thanked the African Church for appreciating them.
