Political Analyst Rues State Of The Nation

A political analyst, Chief Livinus Okwara has said that the current spate of violence in the country may lead another civil war if not properly checked by the governments at various levels.
The founder and proprietor of Rimax Institute, Meiran, Lagos who said this during an interview with Political Platform added that the conduct of party primaries in Nigeria, particularly the PDP, which is the ruling party, indicated that things are getting worse.
He said, “the PDP which has been in power since 1999 till date has not shown sufficient maturity in managing itself so far. Its conduct of the ongoing primaries showed largely that those seeking various offices in the party are desperate for power and not in the larger interest of the electorate.
“There is an apparent lack of respect for the rule of law and no party discipline. This has resulted into an orgy of violence and deaths across the country. If these crises are happening within a political party, what will happen when the various parties face one another in the coming election; elections have therefore become a do-or-die affair in the country,†he stated.
He urged the Professor Attahiru Jega-led Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to be steadfast in the conduct of the forthcoming general elections going by the report about the hijack of ballot boxes during the re-run gubernatorial election in Delta State.
“Some desperate politicians could cause chaos so that results could be cancelled by INEC. So, the electoral umpire must be careful and watch its officials very well to avoid collusion which could result in chaos and fraud,†he urged the INEC.
Speaking on the bombing that rocked the nation recently, Okwara said, “evil people are at work. The bomb blasts we are experiencing does not augur well for the future of our country. Don’t forget that some people had threatened to make the country ungovernable if their will does not sail through.
“From past experience, rigging takes place under the atmosphere of violence,†he said adding that the country does not need a Council of State because they are irrelevant.
He said that those who are members of the Council of State are largely people who had failed the country.†It was former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s creation. Successive governments had failed us. No power, no education, hospitals are in worse state. Obasanjo failed us. President Goodluck Jonathan has failed us too. After all, he is Obasanjo’s protégé.
Jonathan has no political base in his Bayelsa State; his governor, Timpriye Silva is not with him. What has he done to solve the lingering Niger Delta problem or power for example? Six months is enough to make a change, like we experienced under late General Murtala Muhammed,†he said.
