Voter Registration Improves In Jos

INEC registration officials are gradually mastering the use of the Direct Data Capture (DDC) machines in Jos and its environs, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
The mastery of the machines had, consequently, led to the registration of more voters on Tuesday in various parts of Jos.
NAN further reports that it now takes an average of eight minutes to register one person in many of the registration units.
On the fourth day of the exercise, many voters had been registered and those yet to register expressed optimism that they would be captured.
It was observed that while voters were now patient and had abiding faith in the officials, they also believed INEC would get it right.
Mrs. Maureen Amos, a housewife, said she had lost hope after series of failed attempts to register in the first two days of the exercise.
“The complaints of the numerous failures of the machines discouraged a lot of people and sincerity of INEC to conduct the registration.
“Since the machines picked up, more people are willing to come out and register; moreover it does not take long to capture a person,†she said.
Mr. Sinclair Douglas, a businessman, said he was happy that the registration officials had now mastered the use of the machines.
“As you know, the first few days cast doubts on INEC, but we now know better.
“So many things hardly begin well in this country and the registration of voters is one of such,†he said.
