Court Remands Lady Over Theft Of Handset
An Abuja Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday remanded one Comfort Ameh in prison custody for allegedly stealing a blackberry handset and N10,000 belonging to one Sunday Shaka.
The 22-year old Ameh is standing trial on a one-count charge of theft.
The Police prosecutor, Philips Akogwu, said Shaka had filed a complaint against the accused at the Asokoro Police Station on May 11.
On the said date, he said Shaka had given the accused a lift from Nyanya General Hospital Junction to Phase 4 Nyanya, only to discover that his blackberry phone, valued at N75,000 was missing after dropping her.
Akogwu said Shaka also discovered that the N10,000 he kept in an envelope in his car was missing.
“When he dialed his number, Ameh picked and demanded for N25,000 ransom, which she said should be paid into her Oceanic Bank account before she would return the phone,†he said.
Akogwu said the accused was arrested while she was trying to withdraw the money from her account in Oceanic Bank, Nyanya branch.
He added that the phone was recovered from where she hid it behind a big sign board at Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro District, Abuja.
Ameh, of no fix address, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in prison custody.
Chief Magistrate Okeagu Azubike adjourned the case till July 4 for further hearing.
