Anambra Target 10 Gold Medals

Few days to the 17 National Sports Festival scheduled for Port Harcourt, Anambra State Director of Sports, Chdiogo Mbanefo, has tasked the athletes to win at least 10 gold medals at the festival.

Mbanefo remains optimistic that the state is good in the area of combat sports, saying that anything short of 10 gold metals will not be accepted by the people of Anambra State.

He said:“Many states are fully prepared for the festival. Team Anambra are one of the states that are favourites for the festival.

“We are not going to Port Harcourt for jamboree but to win at least 10 gold medals in the sport events we will participate in.”

He disclosed that the state has comparative advantage in boxing and judo, stating that 195 athletes will represent the state at the Sports Festival.

“We want a situation where only the best will give us our target,” he said.

Mbanego said the weather will not pose a problem for the athletes because they have trained under relatively cold conditions in the state.

He added that the sports ministry has made adequate preparations for the team to succeed at the games.
