Erik ten Hag has confirmed Cristiano Ronaldo refused to come on as a late substitute against Tottenham.

The Manchester United manager has dropped Ronaldo for Saturday’s trip to Chelsea as punishment, having previously left early during a pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano.

Speaking today, ten Hag said: “Yes, I can confirm Cristiano Ronaldo refused to come on against Tottenham”.

“There has to be consequences. It is important for the attitude and mentality of the group”.
