Police nab unrepentant car snatcher in Ogun
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended an unrepentant vehicle thief, Sunday Dosunmu, for the same offence that landed him in prison.
SP Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed this in a statement on Sunday.
The suspect was previously detained by Divisional Police Officer Kemta CSP Adeniyi Adekunle on September 17, 2022, in Olorunsogo, Ogun State, while attempting to steal a car parked next to his syndicate bank.
Dosunmu, who was just freed from prison, has resumed the identical act for which he was arrested previously.
Odutola stated that on August 12 at around 19:30 hours along Eleme, Ogun State, he was apprehended again by youths in the vicinity while using forged master keys to unlock certain cars.
“People who spotted him raised the alarm, prompting him to flee, but how far can a 53-year-old guy run? The young men pursued him and eventually caught up with him; they subsequently contacted the police team, which arrived on the scene and detained the offender.
“A forged iron master key was discovered in his hands, clearly part of the equipment used to unlock unsuspecting automobile owners’ vehicles. He gets into the car and drives away.
“If there was no acquittal after a full inquiry, a plea of double jeopardy will not be sufficient; he may have been released due to a lack of evidence.
However, the police will prosecute him this time to guarantee that justice is served.
Odutola stated that the state commissioner of police has been briefed and has directed that thorough evidence be presented to the court to guarantee that Sunday Dosunmu learns his lesson.
