Nigeria’s Under-18 Women’s Handball team is set to face Guinea on Sunday after they showcased their prowess on Saturday, securing a commanding victory of 28-18 against their Algerian counterparts.

The big win came in the opening match of the Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship in Monastir, Tunisia.

Despite a neck-and-neck first half with a score of 10-10, the Nigerian team rallied in the second half, outclassing their North African rivals with an impressive 18-8 scoreline.

Fortunately, the final result stood at 28-18 in favour of Nigeria.

Shittu Agboola, the Nigerian team’s coach, described the game as “a good beginning”.

“I noticed that the girls were having unnecessary turnovers, so I made some tactical changes that saw the team use the wings more in the second half.

Agboola added, “The girls all played according to instructions, which gave us a good result. We are here to win all our games; we came for serious business.”

In recognition of her outstanding performance, Taiwo Babatunde of Nigeria earned the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match.

Nigeria, placed in Group A alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Guinea, is set to face Guinea in their upcoming match on Sunday at 4 p.m.

The 19th Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship, which commenced on Saturday, is scheduled to conclude on September 23.
